Chapada dos Guimarães National Park

Located only 65 Kilometers northeast of Cuiabá, Chapada dos Guimarães is a unique destination in the Cerrado ( Brazilian Savanna ) for it is located in a transition zone between the Cerrado and the Amazon, giving the visitor not only the chance to see the Cerrado's highlights but also birds that are not likely to be found elsewhere in the Cerrado such as the Brown Jacamar, the Blue-headed Parrot, the Yellow-tufted Woodpecker and many others. Its peculiar landscape allows the visitor to move from open grass fields to exuberant forests within minutes, offering a drastic change in habitat as well as bird species. From the grass fields where the rare Rufous-sided Pigmy-tyrant and the beautiful Yellow-billed Blue-finches wonder through the brush and the recently split Chapada Flycatchers make their lovely displays, to the sandstone cliffs where Red-and-green Macaws find an unusual nesting site and the forested valleys where Manakins put on a daily show. Chapada is certainly one of the most remarkable destinations in the Brazilian savanna rewarding each visitor with a wide range of bird species that can only be found there.
