Enjoy our Fixed Departure Tours to southeast Brazil and visit one of the most threatened ecosystems in the world. During 11 days / 10 nights we will visit 4 different locations (Intervales State Park, Campos do Jordão State Park, Itatiaia National Park and Ubatuba), seeing beautiful birds like Slaty-breasted Wood-Rail, Giant Snipe, Vinaceous Parrot, Saw-billed Hermit, Brazilian Ruby, Plovercrest, Surrucura Trogon, Crescent-chested Puffbird, Blond-crested and Robust Woodpecker, Slaty Bristlefront, Spotted Bamboowren, Giant and Large-tailed Antshrike, Rufous-tailed and Bertoni's Antbird, Itatiaia Thistletail, Pallid Spinetail, Serra-do-Mar Tyrannulet, Eye-ringed Tody-Tyrant, Velvety Black-Tyrant, Black-and-Gold Cotinga, and Buff-throated Purpletuft. We also will be looking for night birds like Long-trained Nightjar, Short-tailed Nighthawk and Rusty-barred and Tawny-browed Owl.

Itinerary: (11 days / 10 nights) Intervales State Park This fantastic park is located in the Serra de Paranapiacaba, a mountain range about 200 km southwest of the city of São Paulo. Lush Atlantic rain forest on an altitudinal gradient is home to both lowland species such as the Black-cheeked Gnateater and also those found at higher altitudes like Rusty-barred Owl. Intervales State Park is a great place to see birds such as Black-fronted Piping Guan, Pale-browed Treehunter, Spot-winged Wood-Quail, Red-breasted Toucan, Giant Antshrike, White-bearded Antshrike, Hooded Berryeater, Black-legged Dacnis, Crescent-chested Puffbird, Squamate Antbird, Buffy-fronted Seedeater e Temminck's Seedeater and White-breasted Tapaculo. Campos de Jordão City Located in the higher reaches of the Serra da Mantiqueira, 170 km north of the city of São Paulo, the region preserves one the largest Araucaria (Brazilian Pine) forests of southeastern Brazil. The region displays lovely areas of Atlantic rain forest and altitude fields. Birding in the park for species such as Vinaceous-breasted Parrot, Brazilian Ruby, Golden-winged Cacique, Araucaria Tit-Spinetail, Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper, Plush-crested Jay, Thick-billed Saltator, Black-breasted Plovercrest, Surucua Trogon, Serra do Mar Tyrannulet, White-throated Woodcreeper, Giant Antshrike, Swallow-tailed Cotinga and Red-rumped Warbling-finch. Night birding with the chance to see Rusty-barred Owl, Short-tailed Nighthawk and Long-trained Nightjar. Itatiaia National Park This was the first Brazilian National Park, established in 1937, with 30,000 ha. It is located at 250km from the city of São Paulo, and has an elevation gradient ranging from 300 m (humid Atlantic forest) up to 2,800 m ("campo de altitude"). In the lowland forests, large numbers of palm trees (Euterpe edulis), now highly threatened by the harvesting, can be seen. Opportunities for White-eyed Foliage-gleaner, White-bibbed Antbird, Yellow-olive Flycatcher, White-throated Hummingbird, Brazilian Ruby, Frilled Coquette, Magpie Tanager, Robust Woodpecker, Sharpbill, Giant Antshrike, Bertoni's Antbird, Ochre-rumped Antbird, White-bearded Antshrike, Barred Forest-Falcon, Black-and-Gold Cotinga, Itatiaia Spinetail, Black Hawk-Eagle, Black-breasted Plover-Crest, Great Pampa-Finch, Thick-billed Saltator, Golden-winged Cacique, White-crested Tyrannulet, Velvety Black-Tyrant, Rufous-tailed Antbird, Large-tailed Antshrike, Slaty-breasted Wood-Rail and Blue and Greenish Manakin. Night birding for Tawny-browed Owl, Least Pygmy-Owl, Long-tufted Screech-owl and Short-tailed Nighthawk. Ubatuba One of the most beautiful coastal areas in Brazil, the region is one of the remaining few with Atlantic Rain Forest blanketing land from the mountain-tops down to sea level. The city of Ubatuba is located 200 km north of the city of São Paulo and 350 km south from Rio de Janeiro. Opportunities for Black-cheeked Gnateater, Streak-capped Antwren, Rufous-winged Antwren, Scaled Antbird, Rufous-capped Antthrush, Lesser Woodcreeper, Channel-billed Toucan, Buff-throated Purpletuft, Fork-tailed Tody-flycatcher Red-necked Tanager, Long-billed Gnatwren, Spotted Bamboowren, Long-billed Wren, Spot-breasted Antvireo and Blond-crested, Yellow-throated Woodpecker, Uniform Crake, Ruddy Quail-Dove, Spot-backed Antshrike, Eye-ringed Tody-flycatcher, Long-billed Wren, White-tailed Trogon, Slaty Bristlefront and Rufous-capped Antthrush. Night birding with chances to see Mottled Owl, Long-tufted Screech-owl, Least Pygmy-Owl and Pauraque. |
