One Tour, Three Destinations Maximum Group Size: 6 Participants - We need a minimum of 2 people to run this tour. Leader:Edson Endrigo Itinerary: (8 days / 7 nights) Locations: Serra do Cipó - Serra do Caraça - Serra da Canastra Day 1 - Arrival and reception in the city of Belo Horizonte, at the International airport. Transfer to Serra do Cipó National Park. Check in at the hotel located near the National Park. After lunch our target birds will be Hyacinth Visorbearer, Gray-backed Tachuri, Yellow-billed Blue Finch, Pale-throated Pampa-Finch, Cinereous Warbling-Finch and the Cipó Canastero. Night birding for Tropical-screech Owl, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Band-winged and Spot-tailed Nightjar. Dinner and checklist. Day 2 - Early breakfast. Birding all morning around Serra do Cipó looking for new species. After lunch transfer to Serra do Caraça, arriving at the end of the day. Check in to the hotel. Night birding for Barn Owl, Tropical Screech-Owl, Rusty-barred Owl, Long-trained Nightjar and Ocellated Poorwill. Dinner and checklist. Before the end of the day, we will wait for the Maned Wolf to feed at the monastery only 15 ft from us. Day 3 - Early breakfast and all day birding at Serra do Caraça. Target birds will be the Espinhaço Tapaculo, Gray-backed Tachuri and Pale-throated Serra-Finch. Within the forests, many Atlantic rain forest bird species can be observed, such as the Crescent-chested Puffbird, Espinhaço Tapaculo, Serra Antbird, Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Red-ruffed Fruitcrow and Serra do Mar Tyrant-Manakin. Night birding for Barn Owl, Tropical Screech-Owl, Rusty-barred Owl, Long-trained Nightjar and Ocellated Poorwill. Dinner and checklist. Day 4 - Early breakfast and all day birding at Serra do Caraça, on the trails around the area. Target birds will be the Biscutate Swift, Robust Woodpecker, White-bibbed Antbird, Serra Antwren, Gray-eyed Greenlet, Cinnamon and Gilt-edged Tanager, White-bellied Warbler. Night birding for Barn Owl, Tropical Screech-Owl, Rusty-barred Owl, Long-trained Nightjar and Ocellated Poorwill. Dinner and checklist. Day 5 - Early breakfast. Transfer to the Serra da Canastra National Park. Check in to the hotel. After lunch birding at the low entrance of the park looking for the Brazilian Merganser, Blackish Rail, Golden-capped Parakeet, Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl, Stripe-breasted Starthroat, Surucua Trogon, Firewood-Gatherer, Southern Bristle-Tyrant, Red-ruffed Fruitcrow, Pin-tailed and Helmeted Manakin. Dinner and checklist. Day 6 - Early breakfast and all day birding inthe upper part of the National Park. Target birds will be Brazilian Merganser, Crowned Eagle, Golden-capped Parakeet, Brasilia Tapaculo, Campo Miner, Firewood-Gatherer, Sharp-tailed Tyrant, Cock-tailed Tyrant, Ochre-breasted Pipit, White-banded and White-rumped Tanager, Black-masked Finch and White-striped Warbler. Night birding for Short-eared Owl, Least Nighthawk, Sickle-winged and Band-winged Nightjar. Dinner and checklist. Day 7 - Early breakfast. Birding early morning at the farms near the low entrance of the National Park. Target birds will be White-eared Puffbird, Russet-mantled Foliage-gleaner, Firewood-Gatherer, Pale-breasted and Sooty-fronted Spinetail, White-bearded Manakin, Yellowish Pipit, Pileated-Finch, Dubois's Seedeater and Hooded Tanager. After lunch we will visit again the upper areas of the National Park looking for birds such as Red-winged Tinamou, Spotted Nothura, Hellmayr's Pipit, Tawny-headed Swallow, Sedge Wren and Great Pampa-Finch. Night birding for Short-eared Owl, Least Nighthawk, Sickle-winged and Band-winged Nightjar. Dinner and checklist. Day 8 - Early breakfast. Birding at Serra da Canastra until lunch time looking for birds that we haven't seen during the trip. Check out of hotel. Transfer to São Paulo International Airport. End of the trip. Price Includes: All the meals, fluent English speaking birdwatching guide, ground transportations, all lodging and entrance fees at National and State Parks. Price Does Not Include: International airfare, alcoholic beverages, room service, medical costs or hospitalization, departure taxes, excess baggage charges, laundry, insurance, telephone calls or other items of personal nature. |
