Northern Pantanal (Mato Grosso State, Transpantaneira)

The Pantanal is the largest wetland on Earth. A vast plain that shelters one of the worlds most vibrant wildlife featuring birds like the Agami and Zigzag Heron, Least Bittern, Capped Heron, Jabiru Stork, Gray-breated Crake, Sungrebe, Sunbittern, Hyacinth Macaw, Nacunda Nighthawk, Toco Toucan, Pale-crested Woodpecker, Great-rufous Woodcreeper, Red-billed Scythebill, Gray-crested Cachalote, Stripe-necked Tody-tyrant, Helmeted Manakin and the Crested and Yellow-billed Cardinals. But it is not only the number of species that amazes the visitor: the profusion of birds is another highlight of this giant wildlife sanctuary. The Pantanal is a mandatory destination for any serious birdwatcher and yet it is the perfect destination for those who are just beginning to understand the world of birds.
