The Serra da Cipó National Park lies at one end of the Serra do Espinhaço, 110km from Belo Horizonte city. It is predominantly highland steppe country at altitudes of around 1600m, with plants growing between rocks or in the sparse sandy soil. Many interesting and rare species of birds can be found, as the Hyacinth Visorbearer, Gray-backed Tachuri, Yellow-billed Blue Finch, Pale-throated Pampa-Finch, Cinereous Warbling-Finch and the Cipó Canastero.
